Indian Politics – A Rising Cry

by Code Name 4364 on August 8, 2009

An Indian was asked to make two choices  jump in sewage to clean it up the second is to jump in politics and serve the country. Many would jump in sewage, that means Indian politics is even filthy than sewage. This is what most of us think, or atleast many of us, about Indian Politics, statesman like Jawahar Lal Nehru,  Sardar Wallabh Bhai Patel, Lal Bhadur Shashtri are only in books, politics is now a carrier not a responsibility. Politics is now a bond investment that has fat returns, corruption, Mafia  (add if there are more) are just few synonym for Indian Politics. Everyone knows at what extent a corrupt criminal politician can think about growth of the country and how can they serve the country. Data shows Indian Politics has a lot of leaders in parliament and lower assemblies who has many corruption charges and criminal offences against them. Even many cabinet ministers were found to involve in big scams.

The feeling for a god educated politician is now clearly visible as the voting percentage was  around 54.6% (2009) in the whole country, citizen know that none of the candidates are worth for holding the office and reason is that there are only few who qualify for it, PM Manmoham Singh is one of them, P Chidabaram, Montek Singh Ahuwalia, may be the talented economist India has. Narendra Modi an Industrial Icon which we need today to make a financial statement to the world, L.K Advani I think is an Ideal candidate for home minister, but the point is they belong to two different ends of sea shore. Well there are many more that are eligible but the count is still very less.

Politics today is a profession, like son of a blacksmith is blacksmith,  son of an actor is an actor, so son of politician is ought to be politician. Rahul Ghandhi (Rajiv Ghandhi),  Akhilesh Yadav(Mulayam Singh Yadav) are some name. Graduating from good universities they dress up in typical politician dress code. The issue here is not the dress, but with such high class graduation still their ideology limits them to be in their own parties and the same is visible when our MP’s are fighting in parliament house, shouting like school kids, guess everyone would call wastage of precious country timing. The worse part is some time the house is dismissed. Seems a holiday for our leaders but that costs crores to our fellow citizens. This is not what Ghandhi dreamt of when he celebrated Indian Independence.

With Bollywood in politics, story speaks for Indian politics loud and clear , well even hollywood stars like Arnold is  mayor of California, but has the jump of these bollywood stars made any difference to our society. Many could not give dates to their producer who pay them colossal amount, what to say about their visits to the lok sabha or in their lok sabha areas. Cricket seems to be another river joining the political ocean these days. With former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin all transformed as politican, was once charged for match fixing. May be  there is  no better option than these samaj sewaks clearly shows how talented politicians are in the market.

Talking about corruption, the salary these politicians get is nominal but yet their children graduate from International University, riding costly cars, bungalow. The transport minister of UP was seen in Audi, while the state transport situation is not hidden from anyone, rest is self explanatory. When a huge amount of money is spent in campaigning, it is said that the money is donated by some special people for their Respected leader but everyone knows the story behind this huge sum of money.

With business men like Nandan Nilekani joining the cabinet, is said to change the flavour for Indian politics, still there is a long way to go. With his new idea for universal ID- cards the situations for citizens is thought to get improved, provided it is implemented with full honesty. Guess many don’t want this to happen.

Today our country is considered as one of the corrupt nations in Asian context. Why is that, we have world class natural resources, a lobby of great Scientists, one of the largest IT- support in the world, still what we miss is committed politicians that would combine all this to make a good recipe.

Its time for us to question our leaders, if we buy a commodity from a super market we check it’s authenticity, it’s reliability even it may cost few bucks. Then why not to scrutinize government if we pay a large part of our income as tax. Indian Politics in due course of time has changed its meaning  from social service to self service, the time has to come to restore back it’s meaning.
