We admire America, UK, Japan, the reason is straight forward, they have a better life style, better economic growth, better social life. But if these count are prerequisites for such development then why not country like India, and other third World countries could make it? Answer is a strange term, and much in discussions today, it’s the new currency they were capitalizing on and now the heat is felt at the global platform. This new term is called Innovation which is the new currency for country’s wealth. There were days when technology was given this status, however the time has changed, so the requirement. When comes to innovation the first country we think about is USA, and the credit aptly applies to them. Universities like Carnegie Melon are ware house for innovation, recently CAPTCHA launched by them to restrict bots to visits web sites is said to be one of the biggest innovation, keeping security of web sites and by selling these technology they are making huge money. Google is said to have revolutionized the very thing, today life without Google seems tough. Such Innovation is the true currency for these country, which they would cash for rest of their life. Apple i-phone is gadget full of innovation, which became the turning point in mobile technology. i-pod is self explanatory to every one.
India ranks 41 in the list of 141 countries when we talk about innovation. Is that we dont have quality people for such issues or is that we are just technical labours. The main reason why innovation is still a missing flavour in Indian Tech gravy, is that we don’t have proper Patent laws. Ashok Jhunjhunwala of IIT is said to have build a wireless local loop that was implemented in Madagascar, Brazil. Another such incident is when Vinay Deshpande who created mobile PC, but the gloomy part of the story is it got it’s place first in Malaysia and Brazil.
In spite of such news why is that we still far behind when it comes to the term innovation? India lacks in establishing a powerful ecosystem where technology and innovation can go hand in hand. It’s just not making high end labs, rather its ideas, enlightened regulatory system, intellectual property right regime. These would surely blend up the hidden innovators with the land. I do not say India is too far, Tata Nano could be said to be an innovative shout, that is loud enough to shake every one’s ear.
Reasons could be any, the issue here is, to be able to make a mark at the global level we need to combine Sarswati (The goddess of Education ) with Laxmi( The goddess of Money). The moment this thought get implemented we could say that Innovation is the new currency for 21st century.
