Freedom coins different thoughts when we hear it. Some says Freedom is when any one can do anything, but with my viewpoint freedom is when an individual can do what he should do. Well they sounds the same, but when given a closer thought they make two different inroads in your grey matter.

With India celebrated her 62 independence day, plethora tri-colours fill the domestic and international air. The fragnance of patriotism pours down in our vain, every Indian wherever on the planet unite to sing our National Anthem. May be these 62 years of celebration of Independence is too short to celebrate the end of 200 years of autocratic rule.
However the biggest question is to be asked, has after decades we Indians are independent. The term independence does not confines only to possessions for a piece of chunk of land or setting up a berucracy that is independent in decesion making, its more than that. The term freedom could be applied to the elite class of Indians where they have a substantial influence over the decesion making, but does the common man enjoys what we call Independence? From the time of Independence India has only managed to realize Independence in virtual means.
A common Indian has to fight hard to survive in Independent India. A simple example is getting a ration card, where a common man has to be dependent on babu’s ( the official incharge). There was a time in India where to have your own office of profit, an Indian has to wait in que for years to get the license ( before we implemented globalzation). Is this what Independence meant to us after 1947.
Is social aminities are available to every house hold, be it electricity, good infrastructure or public health. Common man has to struggle every day to get some chunk of these. Miscalculated electricity bills, resulting in bribes really makes us dependent on electricity board workers for them to be corrected, reason there is no proper channel to communicate with the officials.
A good example of such dependency comes when we see this year drought. In spite of being one of the fastest growing economies in the wold and Asia, our farmers are still dependent on rain to water their crops. On one side we have mineral water for domestic consumption and on the other side we have no means to provide farmers adequate amount of water to feed their crops. The soaring price of food products give a crystal clear view of our farmers depdency on rain. Many could not meet the loans deadline, leading mass suicides.

Well if this is what we call independence, I guess we still are just new to the english language. Owing a scrath of land from earth and doing what we can do, does not justify independence to us. We need to have a more concrete founation for our independece. Then only we can say that India is Inependent.
